Taking Your Time to Shine:
Self-Study

Mindfulness & Character Strengths Practices to Be Your Best Self

An 9 week mindfulness-based strengths practice (MBSP) course to help therapists (and others who feel the weight of the world on their shoulders) move from overwhelmed and exhausted to empowered, energized, confident, and more in control of how they feel.

This is a hybrid format of synchronous and recorded asynchronous content. Meaning there will be both pre-recorded portions to complete weekly on your schedule and a weekly live meeting via Zoom.

20.5 CEs

This program has been designed with therapists, healers, and empaths in mind. Empaths have a natural ability to sense and feel what others are experiencing. This is a great gift when you know how to do so in a way that's helpful to others and energetically safe and boundaried for yourself. But many empaths have not been taught how to do this. So instead of using their natural abilities in a way that is invigorating and feels meaningful to them, they feel overwhelmed and drained.

Join Kanjana and Brandon, healers, empaths, mindfulness practitioners, and people who've been on this journey themselves to:

  • Harness mindfulness, self-compassion, and positive psychology techniques that take you from surviving to thriving.
  • Create healthy energetic and relational boundaries to improve relationships and feel energetically protected.
  • Discover your natural character strengths and learn how to turn them up or down as needed.
  • Understand your personal values and how to live in alignment with them for a more fulfilled and contented life.
  • Realize your full potential by recognizing and befriending your Self and your empathic gifts- allowing the best, most authentic version of Y-O-U to shine through.

Description:

This 8 week mindfulness-based training has been designed to help empaths, healers, and others who feel the weight of the world on their shoulders to move from overwhelmed and exhausted to empowered, energized, and more in control of how they feel.

This program has been designed with therapists, empaths and healers in mind. Empaths have a natural ability to sense and feel what others are experiencing. This is a great gift when you know how to do so in a way that's helpful to others, allows for energetically safe protection for yourself, and creates healthy boundaries. But many empaths have not been taught how to do this. So instead of using their natural abilities in a way that is invigorating and feels meaningful to them, they feel overwhelmed and drained.

Helpers are often needing to find balance within their personal and professional boundaries. Mindfulness practices and character strength interventions are utilized to help promote more present-moment contact, awareness of thoughts and feelings, manage stress, and combat exhaustion and compassion fatigue. These practices provide a tool kit for helpers to highlight meaning in their relationships that helps improve preparedness, confidence, and maintenance of challenges that show up in being a helper.   Throughout each live meeting and for the entirety of the final live session we will focus on clinical application of the learning.  Many clinical social workers and therapists have been taught mindfulness-based practices, and yet I often hear a lack of confidence or feeling of imposter syndrome in offering these practices to clients. This is often due to the clinician's own lack of experience with a practice. So this program is designed to help bridge that gap and give helpers the confidence to bring these practices into session. There will be a variety of case examples to illustrate how this can look into session.

Learning Objectives:

By attending and participating in the entire training participants will be able to:

  1. Identify tools from a Mindfulness-Based Strength Practice, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Positive Psychology, and Self-Compassion that can be used as therapeutic interventions to assist with quality and effectiveness of client relationships
  2. Describe what it is like to participate in yoga asana, meditation, mindfulness, breathing, journaling, and therapeutic art practices for their own emotional regulation, stress management, and burnout preventative care
  3. Explain the importance of self-care as an ethical obligation to clients
  4. Describe at least 3 energetic tools used to improve relational boundaries
  5. Explain how to help clients discover and apply their natural character strengths
  6. Describe exercises to help clients understand their personal values and how to live in alignment with them for a more fulfilled and contented life and explore the application of these practices.

To receive continuing education credit, participants must complete the following essay posttest after finishing all required course content.
Responses should demonstrate understanding of course concepts and the ability to apply mindfulness-based strengths practice in realistic personal, professional, or clinical contexts.

Each question is scored using a 4-point objective rubric. Participants must earn a total score of 20 out of 24 points or higher to pass.

Participants who do not pass may be allowed to revise and resubmit responses that do not meet minimum criteria.

Questions:

1. In your own words, explain what Mindfulness-Based Strengths Practice means. Your response should define both mindfulness and character strengths, then describe how the two practices work together. Include at least one example of how mindful awareness can change the way a person notices, names, or uses a character strength.

2. Describe two of your signature strengths or two strengths you observed as central to your learning in this course. For each strength, explain how it shows up when it is helpful, how it may support well-being or resilience, and how you could intentionally apply it in a specific situation.

3.  Choose one common obstacle to mindfulness practice, such as lack of time, distraction, sleepiness, difficult emotions, painful sensations, avoidance, self-criticism, or forgetting to practice. Describe how the obstacle affects practice and explain how at least two mindfulness or strengths-based strategies from the course could help someone respond to that obstacle skillfully.

4.  Select one character strength and analyze how it might appear when it is underused, overused, and used optimally. Then explain how mindfulness can help a person notice the difference between these three expressions and choose a more balanced response.

5.  Explain how strengths-spotting and strengths appreciation can affect relationships. Include an example of how a person might use mindful awareness to notice another person’s strengths and communicate appreciation in a way that is specific, authentic, and relationally supportive.

6. Create a realistic plan for continuing mindfulness-based strengths practice after the course. Your plan should include at least one mindfulness practice, one strengths practice, a strategy for monitoring or reflecting on your practice, and a plan for responding compassionately if your practice becomes inconsistent.

Absolutely!
